NEW CONCORDIA — Residents of a downtown luxury building demanded answers Monday after an armed security guard allegedly used a master key to enter an employee’s apartment and search his belongings.

The intrusion came amid an investigation into a recording device hidden inside another apartment. Building records also showed that a fire extinguisher had been signed out under the maintenance worker’s name without his knowledge.

“If a man with a uniform can walk into your home and dig through your drawers, the front door has failed to protect you,” resident Elaine Murphy said.

Tenants said management sent an email advising residents to “remain observant” and promised to review key-control procedures. Several residents responded by requesting new locks and refunds for every amenity fee charged since the building opened.

Police are investigating whether other apartments were entered and how many Cross Security employees possessed unrestricted keys. Management has declined to explain why outside guards enjoyed more access than some residents paying full rent.
